A gender pay gap infographic

The career earnings of a man exceed those of a woman by an amount equal to the average cost of two houses. This is the gender pay gap. And we know now that negotiation alone isn’t the explanation.

At the current rate, it will take women another 38 years before their paychecks match those of their male counterparts. That’s one more example of what I’ve called the slow thaw for women.

This infographic from learnstuff.com illustrates the gender pay gap in several ways, and it cites the research it’s based on. We can’t work on this problem unless we believe that it’s real. I hope this infographic takes you one more step in that direction!

    This infographic is great, but my concern is that those who are yet to be convinced with simply say that the gap is there because many more women work part time. Are these figures for full-time workers only? If they are this should be made clear in order to convince the doubters. If they are not, then it is misleading, although society still needs to work out how to deal fairly promotion-wise etc with women who are the main care-givers in a family (ie, almost all women who have kids), whether or not they work part time or full time.
